Heavy Transport and Passing ability
One of the bigger issues (excuse the pun) that was expressed by a number of attendees at the "roadshow" was that with a lower speed limit in place in the Waioeka Gorge when someone does wish to overtake a slower moving heavy vehicle (or in fact any vehicle) they will be unable to pass safely while staying under the new 80 kmh limit.
With my experience there are few heavy vehicle drivers that do not let you pass when it is safe to do so - by reducing the speed limit it makes it far more likely that I would need to exceed 80 kmh to make a safe passing manoeuvre - even if I am let past by another vehicle. |
