Only adding 3 minutes to the journey through the gorge

As we saw with the "The current 'average speed' in the gorge" page the "average speed" for a user of the Waioeka Gorge is lower then for a regular user of the road.

So that makes the claim of Transit to only add "3 minutes" to the journey also incorrect.

Modern cars with current WOF's and drivers that know the road would have up to 13 minutes of travel if they averaged 100 kmh instead of 80 kmh as below

Calculations show about 6 minutes difference over 39kms
