Wainui Road

Overview:

There is a short 2 km stretch of road between the Okitu Bridge on SH 35 and the Gisborne City 70 kmh zone around where SH35 intersects with Sponge Bay Road that has a 100 kmh open road speed limit.

The stretch of road has several household driveways opening onto it and many Gisborne & Wainui locals of all ages use the road to cycle between Wainui beach and Gisborne City.

Many requests have been made to Transit to reduce the speed limit on this stretch but to no avail.

If Transit New Zealand was concerned for our safety - why not listen to the requests to have a reduced speed limit on this stretch of road...?
